Paul R. Peluso, PhD, is a professor and chair of the Department of Counselor Education at Florida Atlantic University and the president of the International Association of Marriage and Family Counseling (IAMFC). He is also the author/coauthor of six books--including Changing Aging, Changing Family Therapy: Practicing with 21st Century Realities--and the past editor of the journal Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development.
Please note that I am not accepting new clients at this time.
I come from a perspective of implementing client strengths to find unique and personalized solutions to people's concerns. I don't see people as sick or broken; I don't even tend to view people's concerns as "problems." Instead, my training as an Adlerian has taught me that all our behaviors (even the not-so-pleasant ones!) are indirect ways of finding solutions to what we perceive as obstacles to our personal goals. Unhealthy strategies can be thought of as solutions based on our perception of what we can or cannot do otherwise. My work from this perspective often involves helping people to explore and question their assumptions and discover surprising alternative solutions through encouragement and empowerment. I work with you as an equal, a fellow traveler on the road to your best life.
Trust and Forgiveness
As a trained and board certified marriage and family therapist, I have had extensive experience working with couples and families on a myriad of concerns. I have published textbooks on the subjects of core couples counseling skills, infidelity, and aging relationships. I work with individuals, couples and families from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, and walks of life. My training in systems therapy allow me to see your situations from a strategic perspective, and manipulate the dynamics of the relationships to be more healthy and satisfying.
"I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Freund at Florida Atlantic University. His compassion and empathy, coupled with his commitment to providing excellent care truly make him an outstanding clinician."
"As Rob's former clinical supervisor, I knew right away that I would be working with a special and gifted person. Rob exudes kindness, empathy and quiet intelligence. His ability to connect with others allows him to use his experience and skills as a psychotherapist to help his clients work through difficulties they face and to grow. I continue to stay connected to Rob and proudly watch him be the therapist he is and continues to become!"
